[1] Let all for the present and future know, that we, Sir Thomas le Grosvenor, knight, Roger Venables, parson of the church of Routhestorn, and Hugh Byran, have given, granted and by this our present charter indented, have confirmed to Randle son of William le Maynwaryng, and Margery his wife, all those our burgages, lands, and tenements with their appurtenances in the town and the territory of Congulton, which we lately had by the gift and feofment of the aforesaid Randle, by his charter indented made to us and our heirs, and which Margaret wife of Randle Benet lately gave to the aforesaid Randle son of William and Hugh le Mon, chaplain, and to their heirs.

[2] Item, we have given and by this present charter granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery, one half burgage with appurtenances in Congulton lying between the burgage of John Benet on the one part and the burgage of John Bagg on the other.

[3] Item, we have given to the aforesaid Randle and Margery, all those burgages, lands, and tenements with their appurtenances in the same town which lately belonged to Randle son of John Benet.

[4] Item, we have given to the aforesaid Randle and Margery, one messuage and fourteen acres of land in the same town which the said Randle son of William with others lately had by release of William Benet, also with one other messuage and 3½ acres of land with appurtenances in the same town, which the aforesaid Randle son of William had by feofment of the said William Benet and Richard Benet, cousin of the said William Benet.

[5] Item, we have given to the aforesaid Randle and Margery one burgage in the same town with its appurtenances and buildings in the same town, between the burgage of the late Thomas del Shagh on the one part and Cokeswall on the other.

[6] Item, we have given and by this present charter etc. have granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery one burgage with appurtenances in the same town, lying in ‘Le Muylnestret’ between the burgage formerly John del Grene on the one part and the burgage formerly Matthew del Clyve on the other, with garden and a certain croft adjacent to the same burgage, and a certain parcel of meadow adjacent to the same croft as is enclosed by a ditch around the same, and also two acres of land lying in the same town in Le Netherwestfield of which one is called Le Weteacr’ and another is called Le Stonrylondes with a certain parcel of land adjacent in the same field called Le longe stripe which were lately belonging to John son of John le Sawyer of the same town.

[7] Item, we have given and by this present charter granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery two acres of land which are called Thornetelegh and one acre of meadow, as is enclosed by certain boundaries, in the same town formerly belonging to Johh son of John le Sawyer.

[8] Item, we have given and by this present charter have granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery a fourth part of one burgage in the same town, lying between a moiety of a burgage of the aforesaid Randle son of William of the one part and a fourth part of another burgage of the aforesaid Randle son of William of the other part, lately belonging to Ralph Stevenson of the same town.

[9] Item, we have given and by this present charter have granted to the aforesaid Randle, son of William, and Margery his wife one rood of land lying in a field called Le Mukelfeld next the town of Congulton with its appurtenances which lately belonged to Thomas de Hayewode of the same town.

[10] Item, we have given and by this present charter have granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery, two parts of one burgage in the same town with appurtenances, lying between a fourth part of one burgage late Ralph Stevenson’s of the one part and a burgage late Alexander de Morton’s of the other part and which lately belonged to Robert son of Randle del Clyve.

[11] Item, we have given and by this present charter have confirmed to the aforesaid Randle and Margery all those our burgages, lands, tenements, and woods with their appurtenances which we have within the borough and lordship of Congulton and which Reginald del Dounes lately gave to Randle son of William, in fee simple, and which were Alice’s formerly wife of John Benet.

[12] Item, we have given and by this present charter have granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery a certain parcel of land called the ‘Le Netherpark’ lying within the lordship of Congulton between Mosley and Daven Inchell and which Roger de Haburley and Agnes his wife by their charter, enrolled in the court of the borough of Congulton before Roger de Morton, then mayor there, the Tuesday next before the feast of Saint Thomas the Martyr, 7 Henry V [26 December 1419], gave to the aforesaid Randle son of William in fee simple as in the same court more fully appears.

[13] Item, we have given and by the present charter granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery, the third part of one burgage with a garden adjacent in a way called Le Muylnegate with appurtenances in Congulton, between the burgage lately William Reynard’s of the one part and the burgage formerly Thomas Denys of the other part, and which lately belonged to Richard le Smyth of Yayton.

[14] Item, we grant by this present charter to the aforesaid Randle and Margery that whereas John de Lillelovere, chaplain, holds for his life four acres of land in Congulton, lying in Le Knyghtesfeld near Le Parkelane buttes, which Thomas de Haywode formerly held, paying annually to us and our heirs during his life 4s as in a certain charter more fully appears, the reversion thereof after the death of the said John belonging to us and our heirs, know all men. that we by this present charter have granted the said reversion to the aforesaid Randle and Margery.

[15] Item, we have given and by this present charter have granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery, all our lands and tenements in the village of Somerford with appurtenances which lately belonged to Robert le Mulner of Estwayth and Alice his wife, daughter and heir of Thomas de Westegge.

[16] Item, we have given and by this present charter have granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery all our messuages, lands, and tenements with their appurtenances in Buglauton which we lately had by gift and feofment of Hugh le Mon, chaplain in fee simple, and which the said Hugh together with Hugh de Haukesherd, chaplain, formerly had by the gift and feofment of Margery de Crosley, formerly wife of Robert son of Roger del Dounes, in fee simple as in a writing more plainly appears.

[17] Item, we have given and granted by this present charter to the aforesaid Randle and Margery one messuage, one toft, one garden, fourteen acres of land, one acre of meadow, one acre of wood with appurtenances in Buglawton, which we together with Thomas del Heth, chaplain, lately had by the feofment of Philip son of Thomas del Grene of Congulton, which said Thomas del Heth afterwards released his whole right and estate in the same by his writing to us and our heirs.

[18] Item, we have given and by this present charter granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery 4 acres of land and the moiety of a messuage in Buglauton which we lately had by the feofment of John de Roulegh of Buglauton in the fee simple and which he lately had by grant of John Jakson of Budell and Agnes his wife, by a fine levied in the full court at Chester between them, and which said burgages, messuages, tofts, crofts, gardens, orchards, meadows, pastures, woods etc. with the reversions aforesaid and appurtenances, we lately had by gift, feofment and grant of the said Randle, by the name of Randle le Maynwaryng, by his charter indented made to us and our heirs, and by the gift and feofment of Hugh le Mon, chaplain, Philip son of Thomas del Grene, and John de Roulegh aforesaid, as in their writings more plainly appears.

[19] Item, we have the aforesaid Roger Venables and Hugh Biran have given and by this present charter have granted to the said Randle and Margery those four messuages in the city of Chester which we lately had by gift and feofment of Hugh de Rediche and Margaret his wife and John de Abraham and Isabella, his wife, by their charter made to us, and lying within certain bounds as set out in the same charter, together with the [ ] of the said Margaret and Isabella taken in full Portmote within the city of Chester held there before John Hope, then mayor of the same city, the Monday next before the feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle 4 Henry VI [17 December 1425].

[20] Item, we have granted and by this present charter have confirmed to the said Randle and Margery an annual rent of 8s going out of a certain messuage in Bruggestrete in the city of Chester, in breadth lying between the land lately Alexander le Belle [Yetter?] on the one part and the land lately Roger de Dytton’s on the other part, and in length from the King’s street aforesaid as far as to the land late John de Shabynton’s, which same rent was lately granted us by the aforesaid parties by their writings.

[21] Item, we have given, and by this present charter have granted to the aforesaid Randle and Margery those two messuages in the city of Chester in Le Flesshemonger lane which we latterly had by the gift and feofment of Joan del Hall who was the wife of John del Hall, late citizen of the same city.

To have and to hold all the aforesaid burgages, messuages, tofts, gardens, crofts, orchards, meadows, pastures, woods, lands, tenements, rents, and services, and reversions when they shall fall with all their appurtenances to the aforesaid Randle son of William and Margery his wife, for their lives, without any impeachment for waste, so that after the death of the said Randle and Margery the said burgages etc. shall remain to Randle son of the said Randle and Margery and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, in default to William le Maynwaryng son of the aforesaid Randle and Margery and to heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, in default to John le Maynwaryng son of the said Randle and Margery and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, in default to the heirs and assigns of the said Randle son of William le Maynwaryng. And we the said Thomas le Grosvenor, Roger Venables, and Hugh Byran and our heirs will warrant, acquit, and forever defend the burgages etc. aforesaid to the aforenamed Randle son of William his children and heirs in manner aforesaid forever.
