Charter by which John Childurley of Congulton has given, granted, and confirms to Hugh del Grene of Congulton mercer and mayor of the said town and to his successors who for the time shall be elected mayors of the same town, the half of one burgage lying in Congulton between a garden of the Higher Chapel of Congulton of the one part and a burgage formerly William Moreton’s of the other part. To have and to hold the said half burgage with all its appurtenances to the aforesaid Hugh and his successors forever of the chief lords of the fee by the service thence due and of right accustomed. And also paying thence annually the whole profits thence arising to the reparation and sustenance of the Higher Chapel of Congulton, by the view and discretion of each mayor for the time being. And the said John and his heirs will warrant and forever defend the said half burgage with its appurtenances to the said Hugh del Grene mayor of Congulton and his successors in form aforesaid against all men.
Witnesses:- the said Hugh Grene then mayor of Congulton, William Madeo then bailiff of the same town, John Spensir, John Barker, Alexander Lathum, and others. Dated at Congulton on the feast of St Valentine the martyr, 31 Henry V1 [14 February 1453].
