Indenture of three parts made 21 July, 26 George II [1752] between the mayor, aldermen, and burgesses of Congleton of the first part, John Broadhurst of Congleton husbandman of the second part, and James Forde of Congleton gentleman of the third part. Witnesseth that, in consideration of the sum of £15, the said mayor etc. lease unto the said John Broadhurst, all that messuage in Congleton upon a certain piece of ground commonly called or known by the name of "By Flatt", near unto the mills of Congleton, late in the occupation of William Boswick deceased, together with all that new enclosed piece of land part of the Byflatt lying and being between a cottage in possession of Charles Harding and the mill; and also all the other piece of ground being on the back of the pinfold in Congleton with appurtenances; to hold the same during the lives of the said John Broadhurst, Hannah his wife, and John their son, paying annually for the same 5s.
