Indenture made 30 April, 9 George II [1736], between Richard Martin of Congleton gentleman of the one part, and the mayor, aldermen, and burgesses of Congleton aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that in consideration of £12.10, paid by the said mayor etc. to the said Richard Martin, he grants and sells to them a certain close or parcel of ground in Congleton known by the name of "Knights Croft", as the same is now fenced and enclosed, containing 24 yards from east to west and 42 yards from north to south, to hold the same to them and their successors forever.
