Indenture made 16 December 1655 Between John Okes of Shanwick Yeoman of the one part, and William Rode of Congleton Shoemaker. Witnesseth that the said John Okes hath demised to the said William Rode, all that part or portion of his Messuage situate near to the High Crosse in Congleton, wherein one William Hordren and Elizabeth Rode doe now inhabite and dwell, containing the shop and the dwelling house wherein the said William Hordren now inhabits and two high chambers over the same, the kitchen wherein the said Elizabeth Rode now inhabits, and that part of the barn now in the occupation of the said William Hordren; to hold the same for 90 years paying annually one pepper corn rent.
