Indenture made 24 May, 13th James I [1615], between Francis Holte of Congleton, mercer, of the one part, and Thomas Ellice of Congleton, glover, of the other part, witnesseth that the said Francis Holte, in consideration of the sum of £18.10.0 duly paid, hath granted, sold, etc to the said Thomas Ellice, all that one day work of arable land with appurtenances situate in Congleton in a certain great close called Over Westfeilde and late in the tenure of Francis Holte and his assigns, and 1ying between these meres and bounds, that is to say to the end of the said great close unto the lands of the said Fraunces in tenure of the said Thomas Ellice on the south part, and the lands of Edward Drakeford, gentleman, on the west part, and to the lands of Christopher Byron, gentleman, late the lands of William Stubbes, gentleman, on the east part, and to a close called Blackelake on the north part, and the Hadbutt on the north end of the said one day work of land, and at the end of the said lands of Christopher Byron to the lane on the north end of the said close; to hold the same forever rendering to the chief lord of the fee four pence and the usual and accustomed service.
